Cloud Fun

Writer's picture: Mummy SMummy S

Recently there a post on cloud dough with only 2 simple ingredients and mummy recalled we had the same one sitting in the cupboard for the longest she can remember, so why not let's have some cloud squishy fun for the weekend!

Simple Cloud dough with commonly available items in the house. How easy can it get? We have seen many recipes calling for many combinations and to tell you the truth, Daddy is more afraid of cleanup than play. Every time mummy has quirky ideas for the kids play he will be somewhere far off 😂 And if you can guess it, the ingredients for this cloud dough is not only easily available, it is also very easy to clean up.

2 parts conditioner (any value shop brand is good enough!) 3 parts corn starch Drops of food colouring (optional) - Add conditioner into a mixing bowl - Slowly add in the corn starch. Mix and knead until you feel it is of dough consistency - Optional to add food colouring. Mix and knead to blend the colours in. As the kids work in the dough, it will get mixed in nicely too so not much of a worry. - Note: for this particular brand conditioner, it was slightly light pink in colour and the resultant dough turned out slightly pinkish as well. It's alright to use it this way or to brighten up the world of colours with extra food colouring. Your choice!

Once the dough is ready (and coloured) it's time for play! The kids can't wait and the coloured dough went out as fast as it was made. No time to prep pretty colours or even take a picture! Side note, Mummy really loves the resulting pastels - oh so sweet looking 😊 Similar to playdoh, this cloud dough can be moulded, kneaded, poked, squashed, rolled, cut and played into many different ways. All these movements aids a lot in developing the gross and fine motor skills, which in turn is needed for handwriting. As a mum of 2, there's a difference we can see in the development of little boy and little girl. Little boy needs more practice for gross motor strength while little girl still can't do well with her fine motor, especially now that she's 15months, her pincer grasp really needs more practice. However little girl's nickname is also miss little Xena. She can carry a watermelon! 😂

During play we used tools like rolling pin, shapes cutter, scissors for various tasks. You can also add on other moulds to make the desired shapes. Most of these we got them from Daiso. These tools were used for polymer clay art. Except for the noodles tool, all other tools can be used with our cloud dough. The dough is just too hard to make noodles with the noodle tool. We ended then play with little boy's favourite caterpillar 🐛 Cute? 🙂
