Simple Dough Play

Writer's picture: Mummy SMummy S

Recently little girl's school had a parent-child event and one of the activities there is to bond with the child with dough playing. Due to her age, it's more of exploration on textures. Surprisingly she didn't want to touch any of those so when the teachers gave us to take home some dough, korkor happily helped himself with them.

Dough play also helps the child to learning on cause and effect, fine and gross motor techniques like pinch, roll, knead, tear, stick, pull, press, etc. With slight variation on liquid content, you can create two different textures to allow the child to explore the difference. The red one we had Had more liquid and was softer to mould while the green one is firmer. With lots of practice and encouragement, little boy now gets better with rolling pieces of dough into balls. He even requested mummy to make dumpling skin for him to wrap his pretend wanton dumplings.

Simple Dough Recipe 2 cups Plain Flour 1 cup Salt Oil quantity as needed A few drops of food colouring - Mix well into desired consistency. - Portion dough and add the food colouring. - Store in air tight container Please supervise the child at all times, especially if the child still puts things into mouth.
