Cooked Dough Part 2

Writer's picture: Mummy SMummy S

Homemade DIY cooked play dough that we recently did and main thing is - it last! The texture is still great even after a week and no moulds seen. Well, I can't guarantee after a week what happened because we used them all up the following weekend to make a volcano experiment.

Recipe for Cooked Play Dough * 1 cup water * 1 tablespoon vegetable oil * 1/2 cup salt * 1 tablespoon cream of tartar * Food coloring * Saucepan * 1 cup flour Steps 1. Measure flour and place in a separate bowl. 2. Combine water, oil, salt, cream of tartar, and food coloring in a saucepan and heat until warm. Don't worry if the salt didn't melt. Mine didn't. 3. Remove liquid mixture from heat and pour slowly into the flour, stirring occasionally. 4. Mix until the liquid and flour combined into a ball. At this stage it will be quite hot to touch and the surface don't look well combined. (It's ok, just proceed!) 5. Transfer dough ball into a cling wrap and wrap it up. Wait for it to cool further before kneading it until well combined and smooth. 6. It's ready to use! Store this dough in an airtight container or a Ziploc freezer bag after use.

Article also mentioned that the cream of tartar in the recipe makes this dough last 6 months or longer, hence recommended to so resist the temptation to omit this very important ingredient. Interesting! During play, little boy had so much fun moulding the dough and along the way, the extra kneading also helps to smoothen out the dough texture further. After a while he helped himself to mummy's ice cream scoop from the utensils drawer and made many many scoops of play pretend ice cream. I highly recommend you to try this dough because this is the first dough that had little boy occupied for almost the whole day and he even refuses to keep them! Another plus point is that the aftermath feel of the dough is slightly smooth due to some oil in the recipe, and with just a spray and a wipe keeps the whole table mess free. Easy.

If you attempt to try this cooked dough, do give us a tag and share your wonderful creations!
