Paper strips are a great start for scissors learning. Prior to start, demonstrate how to use and store scissors. Do let the child knows that the cutting blade is sharp and care is needed when cutting. Show the child how to hold the scissors and how to use it to cut the paper strip in one snip. Continue cutting and allow the strips to fall into a basket. Help the child to hold the scissors and let the child practice opening and closing the blades. When the blades are open, assist the child by holding the paper strip in place and allow the child to close the blades to make the snip.
 
Cut pieces can be recycled for art work activities, sweeping floor, etc. Next stage for scissors work can include worksheets, straws, strings, etc.
