Scented Dough

Dough playing again last weekend and we tried something different by adding scents to the dough to heighten their sensory levels! With natural scents incorporated into the play, these calming smells are not overpowering and they add that extra therapeutic effect!

Check out our older post for the basic dough recipe. These are variations from the standard dough recipe - with added fun!

White: Garlic Powder We love this savoury scent and always add this to our omelette. Add a little sprinkle into the dry mix before mixing the wet. Garlic smells can be overpowering and bitter but we are not eating this dough so go ahead and add on to desired scent levels! No extra colouring was added.

Yellow: Turmeric I added some Cumin for extra warming scent and turmeric give a pretty shade of yellow as well! No extra colouring was added. All natural!

Green: Pandan Plucked a small leaf from my organic Pandan herb collection. Crush it into pieces and boil in the water before combining the water n dry ingredients. Once the smell comes out, it’s yummy kaya, chiffon, sweet soups.......🤤 added small amount of blue and yellow colouring to get the green. Probably if you are able to break down grind or crush that Pandan further, you be able to extract the natural green.

Pink: Cinnamon Add a sprinkle of grounded cinnamon to the dry mix before adding the wet. A little pink to the mix for colour too. This so reminds me of Christmas.

Light blue: Rosemary We used a mix of dried and fresh rosemary leaves plucked from our mini herb collection. Boil them abit in water before adding the wet to the dry mix. Added little blue.

Blue: Spice mix Consist of Bay, Cloves, Cinnamon, Cardamom pods, this mix is a part of the ingredients for little boy’s favourite fragrant rice. Added more blue.

For those with whole spices and herbs, you can choose to leave them mixed in into the dough or pick them out before mixing. I left them mixed into the dough so the extra warmth after dough mixing would bring out the scents further. This gives a little extra texture to the play as well!
